this sounds like a great law. now if only we could get
it passed on a society level and ban the unpadded
"polearms" society wide!

--- Lady Courtney de Houghton > Regards,

> The May 2005 Acorn contained proposed changes to the
> polearm rules, which were passed in the June 2005
> Acorn. Below are the changes as found in the Earl
> Marshal Policy.
>
> 3.5.2.4.1 Polearms
> 3.5.2.4.1.1 A polearm is a two handed mass weapon
> consisting of a haft surmounted by a cutting or
> smashing head of one, two, or four striking
> surfaces.
> 3.5.2.4.1.2 A polearm shall be no longer than 7.5
> feet.
> 3.5.2.4.1.3 A polearm shall weigh no more than 6
> pounds.
> 3.5.2.4.1.4 A polearm may have thrusting tips on
> both ends.
> 3.5.2.4.1.5 A polearm thrusting tip/butt spike
> shall be no less than 2 inches in diameter on
> cross-section and shall provide progressively
> resistant compression without allowing contact with
> the rigid tip of the weapon haft. It shall not be
> possible to force the thrusting tip more than ½ inch
> into a legal face guard.
> 3.5.2.4.1.6 A polearm may not have a head at both
> ends.
> 3.5.2.4.1.7 The haft of a polearm shall be of
> rattan no less than 1¼ inches in diameter.
> 3.5.2.4.1.8 A polearm shall be constructed so as
> to emulate a medieval example and shall not be
> excessively flexible. An excessively flexible
> polearm is one that allows the head of the weapon to
> strike a telling blow to a target despite the
> intercession of an unyielding block to the haft of
> the weapon.
> 3.5.2.4.1.9 The head of a polearm shall not be
> constructed solely of rigid materials, and no metal,
> PVC, or other plastic shall be used. Hard foam may
> be used in the construction of a polearm head with
> the addition of padding, as necessary, to provide
> appropriate compression, in accordance with
> 3.5.2.4.1.10 below.
> 3.5.2.4.1.10 A polearm head shall be securely
> affixed to the haft and allow ½ inch of progressive
> give between the striking surface and the weapon
> haft.
> 3.5.2.4.1.11 The use of unpadded polearms is
> prohibited.
