[MR] RE: Virginia Dairy Legislation

OK, I've watched and read this string for a week now...

While I agree that the new law is extremely unfair to small farms, and
should be changed....

This has absolutely NOTHING to do with the SCA nor our events!

Small dairy farms are not the only source of milk, cheese and dairy products
for the Society, or even groups in Virgina to draw from. If the law
prohibits our use of these "home made" products in our feasts and events,
there are a number of wholesale sources, which many of us use regulary
already, to provide these staples. While it might be mine or your opinion
that the "homegrown" stuff is better to use, it's not the end of feasting in
the SCA if we have to go with store bought goods.

This does not make the travesty of the law any better, but why on earth
would we want to pay a lawyer with Kingdom monies just so they could tell us
to go to Sam's club?!?

I fully support calling, writing and complaining about this for the sake of
the small town, small farm economy, because I personally enjoy this type of
product too. I live on the border of Virginia and North Carolina, and buy
many things, including cheese, jams and jellies, and free range eggs from
small farms here and in southern Virginia near my home.

We need to support the farmers, but the panic over SCA feasts and events is
truly unwarranted.

Lord Gavius Allectus
