Twelth Night is also the twelth night of Christmas, the eve of the Feast of
the Epiphany, marking the arrival of the Magi at Bethlehem and the later
baptism of Jesus, the beginning of His ministry. In ancient (and, I believe
modern) Jewish practice, the day begins at sundown of the previous night.
This is why there are twelve days of Christmas.
