[MR] Tourney of Ymir, Tourney Questions and Answers

Recently I have been asked a few questions about the
heavy tourney format for this years Tourney of Ymir. 
I thought I would post the answers here as well just
in case some others had similar questions.  

Can I fight with something other than a sword? 
If the weapons form that you want to fight is covered
by your weapon and shield  authorization then go for
it.   However if it’s a pole weapon, spear or great
weapon then no. 

Are we doing round shield and great axe again this
year? 
No, this year it is a weapon and round shield tourney.
 No pole weapons.  No great axes.  No spears. 

Are there loaner round shields? 
So far there are three (3) loaner round shields, I am
trying to get more. 

My shield is more oval then perfectly round, is that
ok 
Yes

How big are the loaner round shields? 
They are 24 inch center grip rounds

How big does my shield need to be? 
Your shield needs to be big enough to protect you.  It
can be as large as you can carry or as small as you
dare.   There are no shield size or weight
restrictions or requirements in this kingdom 

Do I need to have a gauntlet when using a center grip
round? 
Yes. A hockey glove is considered the equivalent, but
is blatantly modern and its use is discouraged. 

Is a street hockey glove good enough? 
No.  Society rules on armor construction says “Street
hockey gloves may also be used behind a shield in
tandem with a demi gauntlet and shield basket” however
it also defines a shield basked as a metal basket with
enough bars or plates to prevent a blow from striking
the fingers or back of the hand.  And it is my opinion
that the thumb is not protected in this instance. 
However the Earl Marshal and the King will be on hand
for you to appeal this ruling too if you feel the
need. 

I want to/need to authorize spear at Ymir when are
authorizations? What do I need to know? 
Getting things started as near to on time as we can is
very important.  Therefore priority is being placed on
weapon and shield authorizations, once ALL the weapon
and shield authorizations are done we will run other
forms as time allows.  Currently we are scheduled for
11 to 12 for authorizations.  The tourney will start
immediately after that. If you want to authorize be on
time, I will not hold up the entire tourney because
someone is late. If you are late, I will stay after
the fighting (as daylight allows) to make sure you get
what you need.
