The advantage of Spike is that it would not require a
new registration of heraldry.  (If I am not mistaken,
one of the badges that is registered for Spike is
Fieldless).

I agree, we Altantians use our populace badge alot,
even when we could use a more "appropriate" armorial
bearing.  But that is an Atlantian tradition.  I think
the "different flavors of Spike" idea is excellent for
signal flags.  If you are just using it as a signal
flag, do you really want it look like a War Standard?
