The capture of banners in SCA combat is a little more complicated than in
real warfare.  In your typical SCA melee, defeated combatants leave the
field with all their equipment.  Arguments can ensue about banners leaving
the field unless the banners are part of the scenario rules.  There have
been a couple of isolated ugly confrontations about these banners.  There's
nothing as weird as a fight breaking out in the middle of a war. :)

I agree with Duke Cuan's opinion on this subject.  It's really good for each
unit to reinforce their identity with livery and banners.  There's no reason
to create complicated situations by taking those banners onto the field.

What of the renown that we are denying our opponents?



What of our own élan? Are we too afraid of defeat that we are unwilling to
set our war banner at hazard? If we carry it on the field, and place it at
risk, aren't we telling the world that we trust our army with its defence,
and aren't we challenging the world to send their best to try and take it?
