After much revisions and organization, I have a class list for Kingdom
Crusades. Included in this email is the time and description of each class
being offered. If you would like to register now for a class, please email
me at kisaiya at hotmail.com and I will add you to the list. Otherwise, please
be prepared to register for the classes that you would like when you check
in at troll. Please feel free to send this to any e-lists that you would

Crusades October 2004 Arts and Science Classes
Classroom 1:
9:00 AM Sprang 101 Lady Oddny Knarrbringa
Sprang is traditionally known as a Viking textile technique for making
hairnets. But did you know that it has been used far longer in the SCA
period, and for many other purposes and items? Come learn the basics of the
ancient art of Sprang, and walk away with a pouch! (Or the decent beginnings
of one). Class limit is 10 people. The starter kit is $10.00 and includes
the PVC loom, yarn, dowels, shed sticks, instruction book and yarn
needle
.everything you need to make a pouch or water bottle cover by the
time you leave class. This class is two hours.

Embroidery: Detached Buttonhole Stitch and Reticella Work Lady Jaine
This will cover these specific stitches. Attendees should provide basic
embroidery items, such as hoops, scissors, needles, fabric and floss. More
obscure items will be available to borrow for the class. Limit of 12
students, there will be a fee for handouts.

Inkle Weaving Obedience School Lady Rhiannon of Berra
Do you have an inkle loom you are having problems with? Did someone bring
you back a present from War and you have no idea what to do with it? Do you
need help warping your loom? Bring it to obedience school! In just two
hours, Ill show you how to tame your loom and make it obedient enough to
produce beautiful horizontal and vertical stripes, as well as checks, if
thats your thing! Please bring your own loom and shuttle. There will be a
brief lesson on how it works, different types of warping methods and then a
project will be started. A class handout, yarn and loaner scissors will be
provided for $4.00. A limit of 10 people please. Class will run two hours.

This is the class required for Exchequers, rescheduled from University.

9:00 AM Turkish Persona 101 Baroness Kisaiya Zingara
This is a one hour class including a short history of the Ottoman Empire,
terminology of Ottoman garments and a discussion on female Turkish Garb.
There will be handouts. A class limit of 20 please, with a $1.00 charge for
the handouts. The class will run one hour.
10:00 AM Beginning Scribal Arts Lady Livia of Ravenswood
This class will focus on how to get started, including tips on equipment,
books, how to find help and practical practice. There is a limit of 15
people, with a $1.00 charge for handouts. The class will run one hour.
11:00 AM Elizabethan Hair Styles Mistress Isobel Beddingfield
This class will cover the secrets of creating to pouffy hairstyles,
whether you have long or short hair. Discussion will cover wigs, hairpieces
and rats. Learn how to finish your Elizabethan persona. No class limit.
There will be rat sets available for $10.00. The class will run two hours.

1:00 PM Mongol 101 Chagan Khulan
This will be a basic overview of Mongolian Garb of the 1200s-1400s, its
component and construction. Sewing instructions are geared to novice level
sewing. A class limit of 20 people. There will be a handout. There is no
charge. The class will run two hours.

Viking Apron Dress for Beginnings Lady Oddny
Want an apron dress that's a little bit more than a tube or two pieces of
material clipped together at the top? Want something that fits you, but
gives you freedom of movement and looks really nice? It's not nearly as hard
as you might think! This pattern is easy, can be easily customized, and
looks great on those of us who are abundantly blessed and 'very huggable'.
Handouts provided. I'll show you how to cut make this apron without having
to have a degree in rocket science! Bring material if you want to cut one
for yourself! Class limit 20. No cost. 2 hours.

9:00 AM Herbology 101 Lord Menua of the Black Oak Grove
This is a forum dedicated to the explanation of herbology from a period
perspective and what is needed to study the science in the SCA. This class
will contain FAQ with the ability to discuss the hows and whys of the
natural perspective. There will be some herbs available for identification
purposes and properties. No class limit or cost. Class will run 2 hours.

11:00 AM A Gardening Timeline Lord Menua of the Black Oak Grove
This class was started at June University. There will be a short recap of
the first class and then it will move forward. Handouts will be provided. No
class limit. Cost is $2.00 for handouts. Class will run 2 hours.

1:00 PM Textiles Pre-1000 AD Lady Brienna Llewellyn Lindsey
Class will cover woven textile finds prior to 1000AD. The class will run one
hour.
2:00 PM Demystifying Documentation Karen Larsdatter
Get hands-on help with documentation-writing! Find out what you should
include in documentation for arts & sciences competitions and displays, for
entries and projects in any discipline. (Instructor, who promises not to
bite, is happy to help with "documentation coaching" at Kingdom Crusades
and/or via email or snail-mail.)
3:00 PM 4-Shaft Weave Structures of the Middle Ages Lady Morgana de
Mont-St.-Michel
This class will examine drafts and samples woven in various weave structures
and discuss appropriate fibers, setts and colors. We will also review
sources of information for further research and documentation. No class
limit, Cost is $1.00 for handouts. Class will run 1 hour.
4:00 PM Advanced Lucet Lady Lidia Lijovich of Ragusa
This is an advanced class, each student should bring their own lucet. New
techniques will be discussed. No class limit, Cost is $2.00 for handouts.
Class will run 1 hour.
Classroom 4:
9:00 AM Period Hair Nets Lady Jehanette de Provins
This will be a lecture explaining how period hair nets are made. There is no
limit of people for the lecture. For those interested there will be a
hands-on class on making period hair nets after the lecture. There is a
limit of five people for the hands-on section. There will be a small fee for
handouts. A kit can be purchased for $7.00.

11:00 AM You too can brew mead! Baroness Daria of Atlantia
Everything that you wanted to know about making mead but were afraid to ask,
from ingredients to those wonderful little monsters, YEAST! This class if
for the beginner to intermediate brewer, but everyone is welcome. Must be
over 21 to attend or with a parent or legal guardian. Class one hour,
discussion one hour. No class limit, no cost.

Beginning Bellydance Kisaiya Zingara
This will be an intro to the basics of bellydance, including posture, and
basic steps. There will be a short discussion on the place of Bellydance
within the society. Limit 15 people, $1.00 for handouts, class will run one

Are you new to the SCA? This will be a short class on what we are and how to
get involved. There will be a short question and answer time period at the
end of the class. No limit, no cost. Class will run one hour.

This is a forum time provided to practice performance pieces and to discuss
your time as a bard. Bring your music and your opinions. No limit; no cost;
