EVENT: The History of Silk and Metal Thread
Embroidery through the
Ages
=======================================================
Monthly Tea Programs resume at the Moring Arts Center,
123 Sunset
Avenue,
Asheboro on Tuesday, September 14*, 2004 from 3 - 4
pm. Randolph Arts
Guild
is pleased to feature Janis Mason lecturing on the
topic of "The
History of
Silk and Metal Thread Embroidery through the Ages".
The lecture will
begin
about 3:20 pm after refreshments are served. (*Please
note this event
was
originally scheduled for September 21).

Of all the Needle Arts, Silk and Metal Thread
Embroidery is the most
precious of fabric embellishments, with roots that go
back to ancient
civilizations. Ms. Mason will site the origins of this
art, even
referencing
biblical passages, and then follow its use through the
ages by
political and
religious circles. Examples of silk and metal threads,
their different
grades, methods of application, as well as sumptuous
finished works of
silk
and metal thread embroidery, will be on display.

Janis Mason is well qualified to speak on this topic.
Throughout her
life
she has held an avid interest in the needle arts,
especially
embroidery.
Over the years, her skills, knowledge and expertise in
the field led to
national attention. She was called upon to serve as
one of three
national
judges for the Embroiderer's Guild of America to
critique pieces
submitted
for those working towards master craftsman status. She
has taught
silver and
metal thread embroidery at seminars across the
country, including the
famous
Elsa Williams School of Needlework in West Townsend,
Massachusetts.

Admission is free* and the public is welcome. *A $5
donation is
appreciated
for the tea fund . RSVP's are not required, but always
welcome, by
