Gentle people,
I hate to sound like some mundane curmudgeon, but there are three things
wrong with this posting.
	1) It's wildly off-topic.

	2) It's not true -- it's a hoax that's been around for nearly ten years. See:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/arts/nea.asp
(Another clue might be the errormessage I received when I checked on the
address given to send the petition to:
  >wein2688 at blue.univnorthco.edu
  >SMTP error from remote mailer after RCPT TO:<wein2688 at blue.univnorthco.edu>:
  >host blue.unco.edu [138.86.62.36]: 550 not local host
blue.univnorthco.edu, not a gateway)

	3) It's a stupid idea anyway, even if it were true.
If anyone out there in cyberspace could explain something for me, I'd
appreciate it.
The "signatures" at the end are just names. With no physical or e-mail
address, and no phone number, there is absolutely no way to verify any of
them. There is no reason to think that ONE PERSON did not create the whole
list, using random names or picking them from some convenient phonebook. A
REAL petition would have an address, phone number, and/or email address for
each signer!
If one of these petitions were addressed to YOU, to pursuade you to change
your plans, and it was signed by people you'd never heard of, wouldn't you
suspect that the names were fakes? How would you find out, either way?)
	So, my question is:
Why would anyone expect the Prez -- or anyone else -- to pay attention to
a "petition" like this, rather than treating it just like spam?
