[MR] Minors at Events w/o their Parents or Guardians

Recently, Herveus asked:

Does this mean that a blue card will not be a satisfactory substitute for a minor waiver?


Good question!

No.  If you are bringing a minor with you to an event, and the minor has a blue membership card, then no minor waiver is needed.  This is true whether or not the minor is your child.

Also, if you are bringing a minor with you to an event who is not your child, you will need a signed and NOTARIZED Minor Medical Authorization for the minor.  The Minor Medical Authorization is not collected at the event, so you can use the same form over and over again for years, until the expiration date on the form.  I recommend choosing for the form expire on the minor's 18th birthday, and list all of the possible adults that might use it, for convenience.  It's a pain to get things notarized, so preferably, you only want to have to do it once.

The trick is that both of these forms must be executed by the minor's parent or guardian in advance of the event if the parent or guardian is not coming.  To assist you in getting this done, both of these forms can be downloaded from the webpages of the Kingdom Seneschal at http://seneschal.atlantia.sca.org/ under the sidebar heading "Waivers".  If you have problems downloading or printing forms, then your local seneschal can probably provide you with a copy.
