A short warning to those who plan to attend the Darkover 
convention, and *especially* those who have hotel 
reservations!

Greetings!

Please be aware that somebody connected with the Holiday 
Inn chain of
hotels is using credit cards for fraud purposes. This is 
especially
relevant for the Holiday Inn Select in Timonium, MD, where 
the
Darkover Science Fiction Convention will be happening next 
week.

My lady and I have over $1200 of fraudulent charges on our 
accounts at
this time. (We're fine, we called in time, we will not be 
charged for
them.)

We were smart, or so we thought. Kate hung up and called 
them back,
at the number given on the Darkover page. This is the 
number for the
hotel. She got the same guy, and we still got screwed.

The police _and_ the hotel chain are investigating.

But, please, don't give out your numbers to anybody who 
calls you
asking for card number verification. When you make the 
reservation,
the card number is verified at that time. They DO NOT need 
to call
you back and get further numbers or additional 
verification.
