For those looking forward to Lessons at the Palace
this week Virginia DOT should complete the final
section of Route 288 around Richmond, VA to the West.
Currently if you wish to travel to Charlottesville
(Isenfir) from the south, one must continue all the
way up I-95 to I-64 in Richmond.
Route 288 is a limited access highway with a 65 MPH
speed limit that cuts the corner to the west and
allows you to avoid the downtown Richmond interchange.
the route should be open on Friday.
---------------------------------------------------
to use it,
proceed north on I-95 in Virginia studiously ignoring
the appeals of the road planners to route you onto
I-295. (gentles arriving to Virginia on I-85 will not
see any signs for I-295, which is just as well)
take Route 288 at Exit 62.
proceed the 32 miles (29 minutes travel time if you
observe the posted 65 MPH speed limit)
At the end of 288 take the ramp labled I-64 West to
proceed towards Charlottesville.
-------------------------------------------------
the overall distances appear to be the same, but the
speed limit is higher and there is no need to muck
about in the mixing bowl that is the I-95/I-64
corridor through the downtown area.
i will check friday to be sure that they have
completed their final preparations by friday and post
the results them.
