As some of you probably noticed, we had an event this
weekend in Bright Hills. I've received a lot of
compliments, and I am pleased to say I had a great
event staff who rose to the challenge and handled
their jobs with grace and aplomb. Most of the credit
for the success of the event goes to them; they
demonstrated all that's best about the SCA this
weekend.
Lady Szilagy Margit tackled the drapier's job and ran
with it. I cannot tell you how many compliments I
heard about how wonderful the hall looked. Special
notes of thanks should go to Lord Simon for working
his magic with the lighting and Lord Richard Wyn, who
wasn't able to attend but who sent along some
beautiful painted hangings to grace the hall.
Baroness Barbara not only sat at the check-in table
pretty well all day, but she also made those nifty
site tokens.
Lady Juliana and Mistress Keilyn prepared a succulent
feast. There were not many leftovers, and that's the
best compliment any feast can receive. I'd like to
point out that everything on the menu was researched
and documented to Anglo-Saxon England, so if you
thought 'period food' was guaranteed to be
unpalatable, I hope you'll reconsider your opinion.
Lady Wynne and Mistress Chryse coordinated the
children's activities and children's feast,
respectively. Several parents told me how much their
children enjoyed both, and how much they appreciated
the efforts both ladies put into them.
Lord Geoffrey of Doune was the Marshal-in-Charge, and
oversaw a team of people, which included Baron Temur
(heavy), Lord Stephen Bridewell (rapier), Lady Reyne
Telarius (archery) and Baroness Ekaterina (MoL).
There were additional marshals on the field as well,
but I've drawn a blank on names. Know that *all* of
your contributions are appreciated.
Lady Reyne also served as the merchant coordinator and
did a great job.
Lady Martel von Charlottenburg kept the arts and
sciences competitions, displays, and classes humming
smoothly.
Lord William Ringlancer took on the role of Master of
the Hall, and kept the servers, and thus the food,
moving to the tables.
I'd like to make special mention of those gentlefolk
who donated prizes for the tournaments and
competitions. These included Baron Heinrich, Master
Tristan, Baroness Rowan, Lord Denis, Lady Nem and her
husband (whose name I don't know), Mistress Ingvild
and Lord Owen, milady Nina, and milord Jarrett. Your
talent and generosity helped make the day special,
especially for those who got to take home one of the
prizes!
Thanks are due to the Bright Hills Cooks Guild, which
provided supper Friday evening as well as breakfast
Saturday and Sunday mornings, and made sure the
autocrat had her coffee. The importance of this
service cannot be underestimated. :-)
I was also thrilled by the number of willing hands
which appeared to help set up and take down; I know
that Gustav, Brienna, Seamus, Boruch, Susan and
Ingeborg in particular did yeoman service but I can't
begin to name everyone who helped. Needless to say,
*everyone's* efforts made a difference and are greatly
appreciated.
Baroness Ekaterina and Baroness Barbara deserve
additional thanks for all their advice and guidance in
the planning of the event. Their experience helped
keep this first-time autocrat from making any major
blunders; any minor blunders are of course my own
fault. I must also offer personal thanks to my
husband, Lord Feilan Skotr, who fetched, carried,
toted, and provided moral support during the planning
process as well as on the day.
I will post a lost-and-found list in a bit when I've
had a chance to unload and sort everything.
I think that's it. I'm going back to bed.
regards,
Alianora
