Good Gentles All,
I am including in this message a copy of the event flyer for Dun
Carraig's Sfida del Cuore, or Challenge of the Heart. Please excuse me
if you get this several times. Due to a problem securing a site for the
event, we missed the deadline (by one day) for the April Acorn, so we're
trying to get the word out as quickly as possible.

Thanks for your patience!

SFIDA DEL CUORE

CHALLENGE OF THE HEART

The Heart of Dun Carraig this year travels to the Mediterranean country
of Italy. Come join our fair barony and celebrate the Italian
Renaissance through feasting and general merriment.

For those inclined to the martial arts, we present something for
everyone. The day will see heavy and rapier fighting; the tourney will
start at noon following any authorizations. A target archery competition
will also be held as well as thrown weapons.

The gentler arts will be a featured part of this celebration. For those
just learning a new skill, a "First Attempts" display will allow you to
show what you have learned and gain knowledge from other artisans.
There may be some surprises on the table as well (ever wonder what a
Laurel's first attempt looked like?). There will be an open competition
for those who wish to show their works and receive feedback. An overall
favorite will be chosen from the items entered in the open competition.
And, for those of you who really enjoy a challenge (that is, after all,
the theme of the event!), there will be a competition for the best
example of 14th - 15th century Italian headgear. Documentation is
encouraged but not required. Specific questions can be directed to
Baroness Mary Isabel of Heatherstone (Leesa Orton) at
ldmolly at gmpexpress.net <mailto:ldmolly at gmpexpress.net>

Merchants, we invite you to add to the ambiance of the occasion by
bringing your wares to participate in our Mediterranean Marketplace.
While we cannot hope to compete with Venice as the crossroads of the
world, we hope that many will take advantage of the day. Please contact
the autocrat to register.

A divine feast will be prepared by Minowara Kiritsubo no ason (Elaine
Koogler). We will be presenting a feast in the Italian style, and it
will include delights from throughout the Mediterranean, including
Spain, southern France, Italy, Naples and the Arabic world. Space is
limited, reserve early!

The event will be held at Good Samaritan Presbyterian Church in Waldorf,
MD. Site will open at 11:00 am and close at 11:00 pm. The site is dry.

Directions:

The site is Good Samaritan Presbyterian Church on the North bound side
of the intersection with Billingsly Rd. It is the brown wood shingled
church, not the brick church.

From the North: Take your best route to the Washington D.C. Beltway
(I-495) exit at Rt 4 south towards Waldorf. At Waldorf follow Rt 5, it
makes a left at Mattowoman-Beantown RD (Three left turn lanes). Drive
past Billingsly Rd and make a U-turn at the next left turn (about 200
ft), get into right lane and turn into church parking lot.

From the South: Take your best route to the RT 301 Bridge over the
Potomac. Follow RT 301 North to Waldorf. At the southern edge of Waldorf
turn right onto Billingsly Rd at the traffic light. Go straight through
two four way stops. Billingstly Rd will T at RT5. Turn left onto RT 5,
then make an IMMEDIATE right into the church parking lot.
