Those of you who did not go to Defending the Gate yesterday missed a 
good event. The archery, list and rapier fields were set up so that you 
could see all of them from a central location.  The site drained well so 
  once the rain stopped, the ground dried and the day was practically 
perfect.  It was fun learning to dye with onion skins.  Above all, the 
feast was excellent: the food plentiful and succulent, the servers eager 
and the entertainment wonderful.  My thanks to the autocrats, the 
Canton, the Barony and all those who worked so hard and so well to to 
create such a thoroughly enjoyable time.
