Subject: Details on Dave / Manfred Memorial
Dear short-list people -
Thanks for your responses to the earlier announcement of the death of Dave
/ Manfred. I've been printing them out and taking them over.
Memorial is Saturday the 27th. Details below.
Tish is taking it hard, but bearing up better than we might expect. David
is -- insofar as I can tell, and I don't know him well -- bearing up fine,
though if he does as I did when I lost my dad at a young age he'll be
sobbing opely within a week or so. Right now I think he's repressing it,
which isn't too good an idea but is entirely normal.
A word to those who may have resources: it looks like their mortgage
insurance will not cover Dave's death, since it wasn't caused by an
acidental "impact from outside the body". Let's hear it for insurance
weasel-wording!
There'll be one spray of flowers or so; please don't send a bunch more,
because they're sort of useless. Tish is thinking of suggesting donations
to the heart association, but hasn't decided as of this afternoon.
If you know someone -- particularly from the early Scadian days, and/or
Rendezvous days, when the air was misty and the rocks were soft -- who may
want to know of this event, and may not have gotten the word, then please
forward.
Below is what I'm sending to the larger list, which is mixed mundane and
scadian.

The memorial service for Dave Gipe will be a week from now,
on Saturday, March 27th, at 2:00 p.m. Location is the Belmont
United Methodist Church, 3510 Broad Rock Boulevard, Richmond.
The Reverend Jeffrey P. Mickle will preside.
Baron Manfred Gustsson and Baroness Alawyn (Xantippi)
were one of the first leaders of Caer Maer. Bjorn Manfredsson is
now sixteen.
Tish (Recant) Gipe and David N. Gipe, Jr. hope that Dave's
friends will be willing to share their memories of Dave, and also hope
that some of you have pictures that you'd be willing to make available
during the service.
We understand that Caer Maer will be loaning their banner for
the service, and that some people may come in garb, as they wish.
Cards may be sent to Tish and David at:
504 South Sheppard St.
Richmond, VA 23221
The church is just south of Walmsley Boulevard, on Broad
Rock Boulevard (Route 10). If you know the area, it's a bit over two
miles south of the VA Hospital, on Broad Rock. If you're not familiar
with the area, then take I-95 to Exit 67, Chippenham Parkway (Route
150), and go west about 5 miles to Belmont Road (Route 651). Go
north on Belmont about 1/2 mile and turn right (east) onto West
Belmont Road, then take a left onto Broad Rock Boulvard
(WARNING: May be sign-posted as Iron Bridge Road at the
intersection!). The church will be shortly after the turn, on your left.
[Please forward as appropriate. SCA people, please forgive
my plain talk. Non-SCA people, please ignore the fancy stuff. -- Roy]
