Greetings Unto the Populace,
As Spring rapidly makes its approach known as witnessed by the sporadic warm weather and recent rain showers, Storvik's Baronial Birthday on May 21st-23rd quickly follows. As the event centers around "All Things Viking," as befits Storvik's Viking heritage, the three arts and sciences competitions being held are chosen to compliment this theme. Though there can only be one "Arts and Sciences Champion," a prize will be awarded to each of the winners in the each of the three categories.

One competition will be held for brewing a honey-based mead. Please be aware that our Baroness does not deal well with pepper or peppers of any kind so if you feel inclined to add them, she may have to pass on sampling your entry thereby putting you at a disadvantage in vying for her favor for champion. However, there will be other people judging your entry and this should not affect judging for the competition alone.

The second and third competitions will be in the needle arts and illumination. Needle arts can consist of: beadwork, knitting, nalbinding, knotted work, lacemaking and needlework (counted thread, free-form and miscellaneous others). And if you are doing a scroll, calligraphy is not required. The subject for both these categories will be Viking mythology.

We do encourage documentation but it is not strictly required to compete. The documentation provided would add to the point value of your entry since we use a standard judging form. You may request a copy of the judging form used beforehand if you would like. And if you would like to use Storvik's colors, they are blue, red and white and our device features a Drekkar - see website for picture. All entries are eligible to be entered into the Silent Auction that benefits Storvik's fighter fund. Please let me know in advance if you wish to donate your entry though I will be glad to accept them as donations on the day of the event.

For more information or if you would like to judge any of these competitions, please contact Kim of Wolfshaven (Kim Toyofuku) at 301-490-936 or kim_wolfshavensca at yahoo.com.

For those planning to enter, judge or donate your entries to the Silent Auction, thank you in advance for your efforts and contributions. All are equally and greatly appreciated. And again, thank you for keeping the light of knowledge alive and well within our kingdom.

Yours in Service,
Kim of Wolfshaven
Minister of Arts & Sciences
Barony of Storvik
