Greetings from Cear Mear,
Warm weather is approaching and it is time to turn our
thoughts towards Spring. Spring means it is time to
start thinking of BIGGEST event of the year that is
held in Atlantia.
This is an overview of the many activities that will
take place at Sapphire Joust this year over the
Memorial Day weekend Holiday.
Sapphire Joust pre-reservations have started coming in
and I encourage all of you to get yours in soon. The
cut off date for pre-reservations is Thursday, April
1st. That would be four weeks from today. Please go to
the Sapphire Joust website to either download the PDF
version of the pre-registration form (
http://www.geocities.com/sapphirejoust/sajovreg.pdf ),
or print it from the bottom of the homepage at
http://www.geocities.com/sapphirejoust/
Those who register before 4/1/04 will:
-save $5 compared to paying at the door
-be able to register a group for a group encampment
-be able to buy the Saturday evening dinner, if they
so choose
-be allowed to merchant if they so desire
-not risk being turned away should we reach our site
limit of 820 people
The planning for Sapphire Joust is in full swing here
in Caer Mear and we have planned lots of activities
for
the Memorial Day weekend.
For fighters, both armoured and rapier, we have
planned
enough tournaments, melees, practices, bear pits, and
pick-ups for the weekend, that
everyone will go home sore, tired, and happy. More
details about the fighting will be coming very soon,
but if you have questions concerning marshal
activities in the mean time, please contact the
Autocrat at sapphirejoust at yahoo.com
The Arts and Sciences activities are being planned and
put together by Baroness Magdalena de Hazebrouck There
will be a display/competition for the best group
regalia. This is your chance to indulge your need for
spiff, by creating regalia for the kingdom, your
barony, guild, etc. Entries may be Individual or Group
projects. Documentation is welcome but not required.
There will be ample space for larger items.
To encourage the development of our younger members,
there will be a Display/Competition for family or
parent/child
project. Any item of interest to the SCA created by a
someone 17 and under parental assistance will be
considered.

There will be two competitions related to material
culture used in everyday life: The first will be
related to manufacture or technology: tools, methods
of
construction or architecture, creation of raw
materials, trade, machinery, etc. Can be an item, a
model or pure research paper. The second competition
of this type will be personal items or accessories.
Any non-costume item for personal use will be
considered. This year, the competition for the
Sapphire Prize will be for Best Documentation. There
will be recognition for each of the 4 categories as
well. I encourage all of you to begin planning
your projects and writing your documentation soon.
Remember that while documentation is RECOMMENDED for
ANY A&S entry, all entries are desired.
There will be parties , lawn games, youth
activities, newcomers activities, and more. No one
should come to this event afraid that there is nothing
for them to participate in. Upcoming letters will give
more details!
This month, as pre-reservations come in, we will keep
the website, http://www.geocities.com/sapphirejoust/
updated with new information and if you are interested
