-------------------------------------------------------------

Lots of things are going on this weekend! Come join us at the Kingdom Arts &
Sciences Festival (KASF).

The big focus of KASF is displays - ACTIVE displays. Come display your
work. Even better, come do your work while you display it! Come learn
about other arts! Want to meet someone who does art X? Want to watch
someone do art Y to figure out if you'd enjoy it? Just wander until you see
someone doing it. And this is all in one LARGE room. Also, as we had last
year, we have outside display areas for artisans whose art needs to have
fresh air. This year, I have heard that there will be at least two forges
working on-site. There will also be a number of other outside displays.

For those of you who are competitive - or like cheering competitors on -
there are also competitions:

1. Royal Notables: The Royal Baker and Royal Brewer.

2. Inter-Baronial Competitions.

How many times can your Baronage turn to the populace and say, "Go cheer for
and support your local artisans!" There are two competitions:

2a. The Inter-Baronial Performance Competition. This will be a single
elimination tournament. The pairings will be random and be chosen on-stage
at the beginning of the competition using a simple period dice game to
choose who will go first. Each performer will perform their piece (with,
hopefully, their Barony in the audience cheering them on!) and the judges
will choose a winner. There will not be numerical judging for this. It will
be judge's decision. All competitors will receive comments as they leave the
tournament.

2b. The Inter-Baronial Artisan Competition: This will be judged using the
standard Atlantian judging forms, but it will be peer (small "p") judged. In
other words, everyone who enters an item will be asked to judge three other
items chosen at random. This is a small experiment in judging. The
documentation will, I believe, be a large part of the winning entry. The
three judges who see the item may or may not know anything about the craft
they are judging so the documentation will have to provide all that
information.

For both inter-baronial competitions, I've asked the Barons and Baronesses
of each group choose Champions to represent them, one performing arts and
one non-performing arts.

3. Pentathlon/Triathlon

The Pentathlon/Triathlon has been pretty well defined over the last few
years, with sponsorship this year from the Order of the Laurel. This is a
great forum for people who are exploring many aspects of a culture rather
than a single art. The Pentathlon is for adults (18 and over), and entrants
must submit 5 items from at least 3 different categories. The Triathlon in
Personae is for children (17 and younger), and entrants must submit 3 items
from at least 2 different categories. Each of the items must be directly
connected to the persona of the entrant's choice, so they should be of the
same location and similar timeframe.

4. Kingdom Arts and Sciences Festival Championship.

The KASF Championship is a forum to show a culmination of one Art. This, for
the first year, is not being judged with Atlantian Judging forms, but by the
criteria itself. Folks are asked to display their best pieces with their
best documentation to exemplify what they can do. The judges are looking for
amazing examples of items AND documentation. If they find each
breathtakingly marvelous, then the entrant will be proclaimed a KASF
Champion. Yes, this means there may be multiple KASF Champions! In fact,
there may be quite a few this year (being the first year) but, as time goes
by, and the rules start with, "items which have been entered into previous
KASF Championships are ineligible," the numbers will start to thin out, but,
one has to start somewhere. EVERYONE from Laurels on down are encouraged to
enter this competition.

LOTS OF THINGS going on, yes? So come participate! Show your stuff,
support your baronial artisans, leave comments (and tokens?) by the displays
and competition entries. Top all this off with a great feast with dancing
and music, and it should be a fabulous time.
