>From the Cavalry Marshall for Storvik Novice Tourney
Greetings everyone.
We have the details for the rental horses almost finalized for Novice
Tourney on July 17 in Storvik (Croom, Maryland). As soon as all the details
are set, I will be sending out info packets to pre-register for them.
What I need is to get an idea of who wants to get a rental horse for the
event.
It looks like they are going to go for $60.00 a horse!
You can share a horse and split the costs in the following manner:
Beginner riders (walk only) up to four riders per horse
Intermediate and Advanced Riders (trot or canter) up to two riders only.
Advanced and intermediate riders can share a horse with up to two beginner
riders (one advanced and two beginners or one intermediate and two
beginners).
If you are interested in renting a horse for the event, I need the following
information so we can plan on the number of horses we are going to need to
get:
Your modern name
Your SCA name
Level you are authorized at or expect to authorize at (beginner - walk,
intermediate - trot, advanced - canter).
Past experience (briefly) with horses (such as "never been on one" "rode
twice in summer camp as a kid" "owned a horse but haven't ridden in years"
etc.)
Any others you would like to share a horse with (and I need the same info on
them)
SCA group you reside in currently
If you are authorized as a rider already, kingdom autorized in and level
Your age (if under 18)
contact info (email, phone or address where I can reach you and send you the
info packet)
You can email me this information at
brndalston at aol.com or call and leave it on my answering machine (757)
488-3597 or mail it to Stella Brindle, 612 Jewell Ave., Portsmouth, VA
23701.
Send no money now - there will be a form for you to send with your money in
the info packet that should be coming out next week or so. We are just
trying to get a head count.
Please email me if you have any questions about the Atlantian Cavalry
activities at the event.
$60.00 per horse is a very good deal. If you split it with one person, it
only costs you $30.00 and you will have access to it all day. Riding lessons
and trail rides general charge $25.00 to $35.00 per HOUR at most places in
the area, so this is a very good deal. Those who are bringing their own
horses in for the event are going to be paying about 150.00 per horse to get
them here, so 60.00 is very cheap.
Think sharing a horse with four people means you won't have enough time in
the saddle? Well, speaking from experience, if you are not used to riding,
this is going to be more than enough time to ride, to practice all the
games, do your authorization and participate in the tournament. Your legs
are going to get sore rather quickly and you are going to want to take
breaks to walk around and cool off and get a drink. If you have any concerns
about sharing a horse, please talk to me. I am an advanced rider and I have
shared rental horses at most Atlantian events I have gone to and never felt
that I was not getting enough time in the saddle. I can tell you what to
expect. So please don't let that dissuade you from riding.
Thank you for supporting Atlantia's Cavalry Activities. I look forward to
seeing you at the event.
