Greetings and Salutations from the Autocrat!
We are looking forward to a great day Saturday, and hope to see many friends
from far and near. Here are a few last minute changes to the class schedule:
Additions:
The Mastermyer Find (Xavier de Lyon) The Mastermyer Find is an intact Viking
blacksmith's toolbox that was found in the early 20th century. I will
explain the tools and what we can learn from them, and why the tools may not apply
directly to modern steels.
Rapier 101 (Lord Percy Aldridge & Herr Melchior der Graowulf) An
introduction to proper form and mechanics in modern SCA rapier fighting. The class will
cover stance, movement, basic attacks, defense, equipment and the rules for
combat, as well as some small amount of history of rapier in Atlantia and this
sneaky Academie thing people keep talking about. It is designed to give a
strong foundation in the basics. Some gear highly recommended. 2 hrs
European Haiku (Lord James of Middle Aston) Come learn how to write this
creative form of poetry.
So, you want to teach at University? (Lord James of Middle Aston) A
discussion about teaching at Atlantian University. Also tips and hints about for
making your class more successful.

ADMINISTRATIVE TRACK
Autocrat 101 (Master Nikulai Ivanovich) How to plan, organize, and run a
successful event.
Combat Archery Marshal (THL Bruno Jager) The required class to become
warranted. (1.5 hrs)
Exchequer Reports for Seneschals (Master Nikulai Ivanovich) I have to do
WHAT? Financial report basics for seneschals.
Field Marshal 201 (Count Valharic Aurelius) The class required for ALL
fighting disciplines for MITs, as well as ALL marshals every 2 years in Atlantia.
MoL 101 (Lady Emma of Elandonan) The required introductory class to become a
warranted Minister of the Lists (MoL) in Atlantia. Limit 8 students.
Target Archery Marshal (THL Bruno Jager) The required class to become
warranted.
FIBER ARTS TRACK
Basic Embroidery Stitches (Jehanette de Provins) This class will teach you
how to do chain, stem and split stitch, and will review ways these stitches
were used in period. Kit included. Limit 10 students. Requested donation
$3.00 for materials.
Basic Netting (Jehanette de Provins) Learn how to make period nets, hands-on
2 hours. Materials and handout included for small fee.
Bead Embroidery for the Beginner (Lady Lina St. Albans) Examples, materials,
techniques, hints - in period and modern/periodesque. The emphasis is on
using seed beads and bugle beads for embellishment of garb.
Beginning Knitting (Baroness Diedre ui Aodhfionn of Highland Foorde) This
class offers a brief history of knitting, while you learn the basics of this
art: casting on, the knit stitch, and casting off. A list of needed supplies
will be published.
Couching in all it's Glory (Jehanette de Provins) An overview on some of the
many ways couching was used. Will include instruction on different ways to
couch, including laid and couched and underside couching.
Couchwork Stitches and Techniques (Lady Lina St. Albans) This is an overview
of the several types of couching stitches, including Bayeaux stitch and
goldwork style. Fill and outline techniques are discussed. A smattering of
information about period materials, but mostly about modern materials and techniques
that can be used for garb and regalia for impressive display.
Elizabethan Garb (THL Melisant Saint-Clair) things to know before you start
Thinking about going Elizabethan? It's not as frightening if you know what
you're getting into! Here are some things to consider which will make your life
easier as you embark on your journey into the 16th century.
EZ Garb 101 (Baroness Julianna Fiorentini) How to make basic garb on a
budget. Will cover t-tunics, drawstring pants, and chemises.
The Fit's the Thing (THL Melisant Saint-Clair) how to take and use
measurements. Proper measurements of both the body and the pattern greatly affect how
your garb fits. Come and learn the basics of how to take and use
measurements. Each participant will take home a set of their own measurements for future
use.
Hoods, Liripipes, and Chaperons, Oh My! (Lady Emma of Elandonan) A brief over
view of hoods in the 14th Century. Special attention given to textile use
and construction technique. Emphasis will be on producing your own hood
pattern. Limit 12 students. $2.00 fee to cover supplies.
Making 16th C Bobbin Lace (Maestra Francesca la Curiosa) A hands on class
to teach you the basics of bobbin lace making. Kit includes everything you will
need to make the lace. Limit: 6 students. Fee: $30 (for the Kit; if
bringing their own materials, must contact me before the class to find out what
thread and how many bobbins to wind)
Sewing a Fitted Camp Chair Cover (Lady Delia the Flammable) Been meaning
to sew a cover for that comfortable, convenient but un-period, unsightly
folding camp chair? In this class, I'll hand out patterns and give a few tips for
putting them together and dressing them up. Limit of 25 students.
NEWCOMER TRACK
Choosing an SCA Name (Mistress Rhiannon ui Neill) Review of the Rules for
Submission in the SCA (the "no's" of name construction).
Designing Your Personal Heraldry /Creating an SCA Device (Mistress Rhiannon
ui Neill) Learn basic heraldic design to create your own arms.
SCA 101 (Kirk Dragomani) An introduction to the SCA, customs, garb,
persona, heraldry, fighting, etc. A general overview.
PERFORMANCE ARTS TRACK
English Country Dances 101 (Lord Geldamar Le Fauceur) Think you've got two
left feet? Learn some fun period dances that anyone can do!
European Haiku (Lord James of Middle Aston) Or something just as elegant.
This class will discuss the Codified Welsh poetic form from 900a.d. to present
time.
RAPIER TRACK
Just what are we recreating anyway? (Or Period Duels) (Kirk Dragomani)
Overview of how dueling came about, reasons for dueling, how a formal duel was
conducted, and the history of some actual duels.

gentle art of fence to an interested beginner. Limit of 15 students.
SCRIBAL ARTS TRACK
Calligraphic Script Analysis (Baroness Julianna Fiorentini) Intermediate
calligraphy class, discussing techniques of historical script redaction and
replication.
Medieval Manuscript Monsters (Baroness Rowen the Shiftless) Ever wonder what
those critters in the borders of illuminations were? Where they come from?
Reality or medieval fantasy. This class will try to illuminate some of the
creatures found in Medieval Marginalia and the mind set for what their meaning
might have been. 50 cent fee for handout (optional)
MISCELLANEOUS
Clay Whistles (Lady Etain of Sutherland) Make your own clay whistle.
Everyone enjoys a whistle, and this is a period toy. Unleash your inner child, and
come play in the clay! Fee: $5.00, includes shipping of whistle after firing
stage
History of Beadmaking (Lady Tegan de Moreton) Explore how beads played an
important role in history, and how they were made.
How to be Saucy in the Middle Ages (Lady Helwynn Ivelchild) A look at how
spices and sauces were used in medieval cooking with a concentration on history
and recipes. Class limit: 10. Class fee $3 for handouts and sauce tasting.
Intermediate Lampworking (Lady Tegan de Moreton) This class will
demonstrate various techniques of lampworking focusing on moving "beyond basics". There
will also be a Q&A & request time.
Lady-in-Waiting 101 (Lady Alesone MacCormack) How to be an efficient and
effective part of the royal or baronial court.
