[MR] ISO dagger sheath construction help

Greetings and Salutations!

I have a cheap, but pretty dagger (6" blade).
However, it came with an even cheaper belt sheath.
I started making a scabbard for it.
I have cut a body from two pieces of "basswood" (from the local art
supply store). I have craved out clearance for the blade and a
general flat shape I like. I have not glued them together or started
on giving it a nice rounding.

However, I am at a loss of how to finish it.
I am hoping someone can give me some ideas or pointers.

Would it be good so seal the blade channel with wax or something
before gluing them together or not?
