Well, actually, autocrats do not have the "right" to arrange an event
the way they like.

They have a "duty" and a "responsibility" to organize and run an event
that those attending will enjoy.

Performing that duty involves judgment, and presumably the autocrat and
their assistants were chosen because it was believed that their judgment
would be sound and the results would be worth attending.  

Autocrats are responsible to the group that entrusted them with that
duty and to the attendees of that event, as well as the owners of the
site and the vendors that provide services on behalf of the event.


That said, although I very much like the Tempore Atlantia concept, the
original post did make a valid point.
At all major arts-oriented events, it would be nice to have a venue for
all time periods.
It does not need to be the main focus for the event or even the
competitions, but I would rather see a piece entered in competition
sooner than later!  That way, we all learn more stuff sooner!
