You could do this. Being an artist. I have also set up my own table
up a little away from the offical arts. Usually the person running it
doesn't mind...especially at events were you have tent-space on/near
the field--where more people are likely to see it in the hall.

Absolutely, this a definitely a way to get what you want. This is a
way (though admittedly not the best way) to encourage people to help
run/sponsor A&S categories.

Sure you could enter it...as long as you don't judge the competition.

Have you emailed on this list to find people that are interested in
your topic before? Have you checked to see if there are any mailing
lists focusing on your interests?
