Novice Tourney: 
Challenge of the Phoenix!
April 23rd - 25th, 2004
Barony of the Sacred Stone 

My Lords and Ladies come one and all to the Challenge of the Phoenix! This is Sacred Stone's Novice Tournament hosted by the glorious Order of the Phoenix Claw. 

Combat: There will be a Novice Rapier and Heavy Tournament followed by an open Tourney. Both heavy tourneys will be a double elimination tourney. We will also have Equestrian activities. On Sunday there will be a Regional War Practice. Contact the MIC Lord Galen Storm (stan_harmon at hotmail.com) with questions. 

Arts and Science Competitions: Best Heraldic Field Display (Tabards, Pennants, and Shields, oh my); Best Display of Phoenix In any Medium; Best Period Encampment Hosted By Baroness Susanna von Schweissguth (needleznpinz at charter.net); Best Beer and Ale Contest (Bring a Bottle of your Best; The Most discerning Tongues of Atlantia will test your Brewing Craft); Belly Dance Contest Judged by Baron Alejandro Mateo Ramirez y Mendoza and Baroness Benefse.

The Feast: Pit cooked Pork and assorted Delicious Vegetables. Please contact Lord Gaelan mac Cuinnea'gain (Lordgaelan at aol.com) and Lady Brianna O Duinn (SADUNNDEAL at aol.com), the Feastocrats, with any dietary concerns.

Site: Triplette Farm, 2239 Center Rd, Booneville, NC 27011. The site is primitive, yet lovely. Novice Tournament is a WET Site. Please bring your best wines and brews and your Pavilions! (period pavilions only will be allowed on the field - modern tenting will be arranged nearby, yet out of sight.) Site opens at 5pm on Friday and closes at 5pm on Sunday. 

The Barony of the Sacred Stone's Baronial Curia will be held on Sunday, April 25 at 10am

>From the south: Take your best route to I-77 North. Take exit 82 and turn right at the end of the exit ramp. **Proceed less than a mile and turn right onto Messick Rd. Proceed to the end of Messick Rd, and turn left on center road. Approx 8 miles later is a BP gas station on the left. 1.4 miles past the BP station, turn right at the first castle on the right on a gravel road. Signs will be posted.

Encampment Competition:  

1-6 points for the following.

 

  1.. Cover:  Criteria to consider would be fiber content, engineering design, colors, decorations (if any)
  2.. Furniture:  Criteria include design, materials, construction techniques and methods, style and period. 
  3.. Accessories:  Again, design, materials, construction methods, period(s) represented would all be considered. 
  4.. Food:  Content, recipes, presentation can all be considered
  5.. Recreational Activities:  games, work projects, music, story telling, leisure or vocational activities all reveal social or economic class and time period of participants.
  6.. Written description:  Help out the judges and tell them why they should award maximum points to the owners/creators of this particular encampment
  7.. Period primary references:  If you provide period references: articles, paintings, photographs of relics or academic recreations, the judges will be at your mercy.
  8.. Judges Discretion:  Here is where atmosphere, creativity, the WOW factor will determine the outcome of an otherwise close competition.
