Friends and neighbors,
I truly believe that we have the world's most photogenic hobby. Pageantry,
costumes, the great outdoors, thrilling combat--we have it all. We also
have people who take great pictures, while being discreet with their modern
photography gadgets.
I am issuing an unusual A&S challenge at Ymir. This is a contest that will
not be judged until after the event!
Rules:
1) Take a great photo at Ymir. Take several. Digital or emulsion, as you
please.
2) Pick up one of the entry sheets I'll leave in the A&S area, authorities
permitting, detailing where and how to send it to me.
3) Two weeks later, I'll choose a winner and send a CASH PRIZE of $20.
4) I'll announce the winner here in the Merry Rose and post my favorites on
the Web for all to see.
Judging Criteria:
a) Most importantly, does the picture transport the viewer back in time? Is
it as free as possible from duct tape, cars, sunglasses, and fencing masks?
b) Is it a good photograph? Is it well composed, well exposed, and so on?
c) Does it show the SCA in a positive light? (I can think of a number of
photographs that might score well on the first two criteria, but not so well
on the third. A pine tree, for example.)
d) In case a tie-breaker is needed, I'll pick the one I like best.
Your servant,
Charles Fleming
