Alternate routes that may be of use (if somewhat longer)

Avoid turnpike:
If you're going up 70, take I68 across to I79 to I70 in 
Washington PA.  I79 continues north from there with a slight 
jog.  (Not been to Pennsic, but know the Pittsburgh route well).

Avoid Breezewood:
(Need a map for this, so I don't have the route number north 
from Cumberland) - take 68 over to just before Cumberland 
MD.  Take (221?) North to I99 which drops you at the 
turnpike the exit west of Breezewood (Bedford, PA).   It's a 
two lane road most of the way up, but it's pretty.  I found 
that one the other way coming back from Pittsburgh when the 
'pike backed up to Bedford...  I think the signage on I68 
points you to Johnstown PA for the exit, but I haven't used 
it in that direction yet.
