Subject: [Lochmere] Night of the Fools...one last reminder...
Night of the Fools
April 16th-18th, 2004
Barony of Lochmere
Its April 1585 and a glorious New Year! Or is it? It has been three
years now since Pope Gregory XIII has issued his "Inter Gravissimas",
replacing our Julian calendar with what is becoming known as the
Gregorian calendar. No more shall the New Year begin on April 1!
France has accepted the new reckoning, but those silly fish Englishman
still have not. Foolery, merriment and fighting will be a plenty as the
French try to convince those "poisson d'avril" of the error of their
ways!
The Barony of Lochmere is continuing its fine tradition of highlighting
a given martial art once a year, this time at Night of the Fools. This
rapier only event that will be action packed. A single elimination
Fool's Tourney will be held with a prize for Best Use of a Period Fool's
Parry Device, best Fool's Death andoverall Winner of the Tourney. After
lunch melee style fighting will be the feature of the day. Non
combatants will be encouraged to participate in the revelry by answering
riddles through out the day from"Molly the Fishmonger". There will be
an A&S display in the theme of"Fish in Period". In addition there will
be both a Youth Brewing, and Adult Brewing competition.
As this is an event of foolery and folly, performers are encouraged to
attend. A bardic circle will be held after feast.
