Greetings to all in the Tavern!
The Shire of Cathanar would like to announce its upcoming Event, so I will tack this most informative placard to the wall, in the hopes that all and sundry will read it and be inspired to attend. (For those who may have read this announcement in the Acorn, please note that we have been forced to cancel the target archery and thrown weapons competition, as we have been denied permission to carry on such activities by the owners of the campsite, much to our dismay.)

Peasant's Revolt
May 14-16, 2004

In 1381, the peasants of England revolted against the Regent, John of Gaunt, over the issue of excessive taxation. The Revolt was crushed by deceit and broken promises on the part of the young King Richard II. On the third weekend of May, you have the chance to rewrite history when the Shire of Cathanar holds its own version of a Peasant's Revolt.
Upon registration, each person will be assigned by chance as a Peasant or Noble. By participating in a myriad of activities, both martial and otherwise, you may accrue points for your side. At the end of the day, the faction with the most points will be declared the victor, and the leading scorers of the losing side will be ceremonially executed. The losers will also be expected to serve the potluck dinner to the members of the winning faction. Class-appropriate jests, raillery, and bawdy insults are expected to be delivered on both sides.

Planned activities that will earn points: Heavy fighting, rapier fighting, A&S display and competition (Items that may have been used by either a peasant or a noble), children's competitions, music to give encouragement to one's side, home-cooked items for the potluck, and anything else the Autocrat deems worthy.

Location: Fisher's Landing, outside New Bern, North Carolina.

Facilities:
Primitive campsite, toilets and cold water only.
Site is wet. No original containers, please.
Other than the potluck supper, you are on your own for food, but there is a convenience store within a short drive.

Merchants are welcome. Please let the Autocrat know you are coming.

Driving Directions: Take your best route to Hwy 70 East between New Bern and Havelock, North Carolina. About 9 miles east of New Bern, you will see the Riverdale convenience store on the right side of the road. Cross over to the left side of Hwy 70 and pull onto the gravel road. Go to the parking
pad at the end and you are there. Signs will be posted.
