Greetings!
Sunbrella works just fine in the rain. However, it's a pain to work with.
I used Sunbrella on parts of my pavilion because I wanted a color
contrast. I never want to work with the stuff again!
The sunbrella is actually heavier than sunforger, not to mention a LOT
more expensive. If I remember correctly it was something along the lines
of $11/yd as opposed to the $4 for the sunforger.
Anyway, I'd go ahead and make the shade, and if the QuickShade isnt'
strong enough you can always replace it with wooden poles (they're more
lightweight anyway & cheaper to replace if necessary).
