The Warlock series by Christopher Stasheff. That's also the first
place I ever heard about the SCA. The amusing thing is, though, that
the author didn't write it as the SCA. Instead, he called the group
in his book the "Romantic Emigres". It was changed to the SCA by
an editor without him knowing (iirc). Still, it's quite a good book
and quite a good series. I highly recommend it.
