Knightriders is availible on DVD. I own it and have listened to the
directors comentary with George Romero and Tom Savini (who plays Morgan). It
actually mentions the fact that they based most of the movie on the SCA - He
actually says it folks! Its during the first few minutes of the Merchants
row scene at the begining of the the movie. BTW he also mentions that what
you see in Knightriders is the first instance of what now is a common
occurance at RenFaire's all over the country with the conotation of they
invented the whole ideal of RenFaire's. I don't know if its true, but it was
kinda cool. The date of the movie is 1981 and I think Scarboro Faire in TX
way outdates it. Check it out.
I was once squired to Sir Nikolas Dekane of Atenveldt (long since inactive)
who claimed to have either known George Romero or was around to play with
him when apparently he (george romero) was actively playing SCA. Anyway, Nik
said George wanted to make a SCA flick and a Biker flick, but at the time
was unable to fund both. So he made one movie instead. Now get this... I was
also informed that Steven King only appeared in the movie cause George
Romero won a bet with Steven that he would either to be the first to make a
million dollars or would be the first to make a million dollar movie... one
or the other. The loser had to appear in the others movie as a redneck. I
cannot confirm this. Anyone out there who can?
Finally, I was wondering why it was filmed in PA, but all the towns named
are in CA??? I was once told that it was so George and the actors could go
to Pennsic and the get "in the mood". Method acting I guess you could say...

P.S. I remember when A.C. Clark's 3001 came out, someone saying when the
astronaut returned to earth they were greeted by the queen of the SCA and I
think riding a dragon... I didn't read it... just remember it being
mentioned.
