I'm surprised by that attitude too. If someone had to
work at the research to get that information for
themselves, it might have been done already but maybe
not easily accessed. It also might be useful for
others in their group even if people in the kingdom
knew about it already. The frustration is you feel
like you might have wasted a lot of time. When I
start research I post questions to this list to see if
the subject is known to be out there already. Even if
it sounds like a dumb question to some, to others it
might still be a learning experience.

I'm sorry you have hesitated because there is no
reason to hestitate! We strive for what is medieval
but we're also a society of courtesy. So if anyone
ever discussed your attire less than courteously the
issue would be theirs not yours. As one who was
teased about tennis shoes I understand this fear but
also understand that there is no right to tease or
make anyone feel less for mistakes in their attempts.
I must also say I can't be more proud of the newcomers
who have chosen to speak up in this discussion. I've
never seen more eloquent posts from newcomers before.
Various posts from you and other newcomers explain our
fears of laws like this than we could ever have done
ourselves, whether we've played for 1 year or 15
years.
as always
