[MR] plastic armor question - oops

I don't think you stirred up "hurt" feelings so much as strong ones...and
I do believe this is a forum which welcomes a healthy debate.
I am a relatively new fighter. I fight in plastic armor. Will this
always be so? No. I, over time, will replace plastic with more period
pieces. My reason for fighting in plastic was for no other reason than it
was readily accessible when I began. In the mean time I will go that
extra few steps to cover and mask what is visible. Nothing more is asked.
It's more what we should expect of ourselves that is the key of this
debate. I will replace the most obvious pieces first and go from there.
The number of Lady's AND Lords in the SCA that go all out for say a 12th
Night event is staggering. My last 12 Night I was truly in awe of the
workmanship and ability those in this Kingdom have to offer. None of us
joined the SCA with these talents (or at least none that I know). So I
think the basic argument is not what material we use for our armor but why
we don't go to those same lengths to look as spiff on the field as we do
when we go to court?
This is a question this debate as sparked in my mind. And I thank you for
bringing it up.
