[MR] List Field Appearance policy query

it was not our intention to allow modern combat boots (being the ones with
laces all the way up the front) without some acceptable covering.

undisguised cleats were also out. regardless of height. they must be
covered.

and it was also not our intention to allow undisguised plastic (save the
exceptions noted such as hand protection and shield edging) regardless of
the color. same with the idea of painting black plastic black.

these were the intentions of her grace isabel and myself. i mention them
only in case there is any confusion on our intent. the final call, of
course, falls with their majesties and their earl marshal.

regards
logan

Per the Marshallate website:

Leather or leather-look boots, in a color consistent with period practice
are acceptable. This includes standard leather combat boots, but would
exclude leather/nylon boots.

What about black ankle-height cleats? If they're higher than ankle height
does that make them okay?

Also:

A modern (e.g. plastic materials, modern sports equipment) component may be
used if it is hidden from view, by covering it with opaque covering
materials not made of plastic, including but not strictly limited to;
leather, metal, textiles with a period appearance and, where appropriate,
stone or wood. Tapes, paints, stains, dyes, foils, films, transparent or
translucent materials and any other inadequate or insubstantial coverings
shall not be deemed an acceptable covering material.

I was originally given to understand that metal-colored paint was an
acceptable covering material. I also heard a rumor that black ABS would be
excluded since it doesn't really stand out from a distance of 10'.

Can somebody in a position to make a definitive answer give a definitive
answer?

Regards,

Jonathan Blackbow

There is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct,
or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction
of a new order of things.
