Greetings unto the list,
I agree with Judith. This past Pennsic was interesting to say the least.
This was my 1st war "attempting" to stay in period attire whenever I left
camp. Ok, so I did use cotton - but at $5 a yard plus trim a "day
Elizabethan" is possible at a very reasonable price. What shocked me even
more was when on the list (wearing the cotton Elizabethan's and a hoop) I
was asked by many why I bothered. Wouldn't be better off in just a chemise
and skirt instead of the 5 layers of the Elizabethan (ok, no corset at war).
For the most part is was not all that bad. The hoop provided a nice, shall
we say, breeze. The 1 dress I did in all linen was very nice even on the
warmest days. So I am here to say it can be done, and on a budget - but it
does require a bit more planning.
Just my 2 cents worth.
