You can make your own harness of steel armour for around $100 with some
simple tools.

That would include:

Helm
Gorget
Pauldrons
Breast and back plate
arms (vambrace and rerebrace)
gauntlets
legs (cuisse and greave)

Simple tools include:

1 ball pean hammer
1 drill
1 sabre saw
1 stump
1 hunk flattened, thick metal

It's really pretty easy to make workable armour you can be proud to wear
(Masterpieces are a different story... :)
