     I work with children in both Mundane and SCA life.  And unfortunately, 
child abuse is not something you can always do a background check for.  There 
is always a first time and there isn't always a criminal record.  It is a fact 
that a typical moloster will abuse between 30 and 60 children before they are 
arrested.
     Sadly it is one of those things you can't predict, only prevent.  One of 
the best ways to prevent it in the SCA is for parents to become more involved 
with the planning and implementation of children/pages activities at all 
levels.  Stop to check in on your children and make sure that they are never left 
alone with one adult, even for bathroom trips.  If you have an uneasy feeling 
about a particular person, do not leave your children with them, its as simple 
as that.
