Well if we're going to start that, why don't we use one of the creative
suggestions to rename "SCA"...Society for creative anarchists, society for
consenting adults, society for chanting alternate lyrics for existing
songs...

Shoot, we could just start our own language. Everyone could start speaking
heraldese.
lol
It's a hobby, a game, something that some people take way too seriously.
The fine folks that started it all came up with these terms long before I
came along, and they seem to have been working just fine so far. Everyone
seems to know what they refer to within the SCA. My suggestion is to
invoke influence by example; if one doesn't care for a certain term, then
that person can use a different one if they so choose. What's ridiculous
to one person may make perfect sense to another, and there *is* a bit of
tradition about the whole thing, like carpet armor and the fact that in
heavy fighting if someone takes your leg you go down on one knee...I think
in period if somebody hacked off my leg I'd be a bit too preoccupied with
my condition to think of continuing the fight, and grateful when my
opponent killed me so I wouldnt' feel it anymore. Ouch.
