i think there are undertones of the silly idea that animal breeders are evil
and uncaring. its purely ignorance on the part of those that spread the
notion. there sure are some puppy mills out there and there are always
instances of animal neglect that can be drudged up. but i can tell you from
direct experience of being a breeder of oriental and colorpoint shorthairs:
http://www.cfainc.org/breeds/profiles/oriental.html for a decade that those
are rare instances indeed. i knew breeders from all over the world and
found them all to be so devoted to the improvement of their breed and the
care of the animals that most people would be shocked. i crossed paths with
many dog breeders as well and would not want to own a non pedigreed animal
because i know what goes into caring for and raising a particular breed of
animal. anyone who has ever met any of my cats knows that there is a
definitive difference between them and other cats. dont misunderstand, i
love animals and i dont care where they come from. but the idea that
breeders are foul people just confuses me to no end. but then again i left
the cfa and quit showing cats because of the politics and backstabbing and i
had just discovered this new haven from that, the sca.

like bob barker says! go spay and neuter them today!

I'm not sure I understand your question. I know lots of people who have
purchased and raised purebred dogs...including us. We have owned two
purebreds over the years, both Alaskan Malamutes...and they have been
wonderful dogs that have been important parts of our family. The first had
a large litter (accidentally) by a purebred, registered Siberian Husky...and
they were wonderful as well. We kept one to raise as a companion dog to the
mother. Both of them are gone now, and we miss them. The second we still
have, and he is wonderful.

We have also raised two mixes...one being the dog mentioned above, the other
a Samoyed/Akita(??) mix that we adopted from the local animal shelter. We
have seen no difference in the manners, intelligence and affection shown by
either group of dogs.
