Well I'm glad to see no one over reacts in Atlantia. Heaven forbid we ever 
change anything in the SCA to be slightly more historic, in a history-based 
club. Changing troll to porter will surely send many good folks flying from 
our group because it's not fun anymore, and the moon will split in two and 
Ukla, Arial, and Thundar will ride the land and save the innocent from the 
wicked (yes this is sarcasm, letting you know since some of you lack humor).



Seriously people get a grip.

I do living history. I also do the SCA. Anyone who knows me will say I am a 
fun guy in the SCA, I make people laugh all the time. I like the social 
aspect of the SCA, I have many people I call friend in the group. I do LH 
because its fun, in fact I skip big SCA events like crusades to go to LH 
events because the events are more fun than SCA events, that includes living 
history people being fun people. We are not assholes sitting around plotting 
to out authenticity others and nazi people. We BS as much as any SCA person 
only we have a set standard on how out equipment should look. If it were not 
fun who would do it?


Stop equating change to minor authenticity to not fun, that is just plain 
ignorant! IF and I do say if we changed Troll to porter how does that ruin 
anything? It only improves the society.

For those who think authenticity will drive people from the SCA I say look 
at American Civil War reenactment. They have insane standards and twice the 
amount of people reenact ACW as there are members of the SCA.

They only reason the SCA is bigger than medieval LH is because it was first, 
in Europe medieval LH is way way bigger than the SCA.

To sum up:

1) Stop the melodrama.
2) I like the idea of using porter, troll is childish sounding and sounds 
like a LARP term.
3) We are a history based (no matter how lose) group and should evolve our 
terms to fit current knowledge. Troll is not history, it is a creature in a 
child’s tale.
4) People interested in authenticity are fun people too. It is only a 
suggested change, no need to get the panties in a bunch. If it happens it 
happens, no need for the melodrama.
5) Authenticity is fun, why do it otherwise.
6) Yes the SCA started as a party but it became a history based club so the 
argument that it’s a backyard party group is moot!
7) As insulted as some are feeling now, I feel insulted when the ignorant 
"authenticity ruins everything" comments come up.
