[MR] sewing notions on airplane?

I do cross stitch on planes and I asked the same question the last time I
went to my local cross stitch supply store. They showed me these little
round disks that you can hang around your neck on a string or ribbon. They
contain a tiny little blade that is built into the disk and can be used to
cut thread once you pull back the secret piece of plastic covering the
blade.
It's not something that any terrorist could use to hurt someone and to the
untrained (non-seamstress) eye, the object looks like a completely harmless
piece of jewelry, though rather ugly.
To answer your follow-up question, the store is located in Falls Church, VA.
