>I've been mulling over in some obscure corner of my mind a few things for

Yes, a number of different kingdoms operate this way. Others the way that
Atlantia does, and some, go to more extremes, requiring many more separate
authorizations (such as Mass Weapon, Thrusting Tip, Dagger, etc)

>I recently authorized in a new weapons form. None of the marshals present
>were authorized in that form. [...] Yet the marshals, not authorized in
>that weapons form, deemed me to be safe enough to go forth and fight in
>that form.

In this is true, then there is a problem. By Atlantian law, at least one
marshal must be authorized in that form. Ala:

3.4.9.2 At least one marshal MUST be authorized in the applicable weapons
form.

So if neither marshal was authorized, then they did not understand the
rules of being a Marshal, and your authorization may not be valid (sorry).

>I am presently waiting for my paperwork to go through for my Marshal
>warrant. It bothers me a bit that I will be considered a field marshal,
>worthy to oversee not only heavy weapons but combat archery as well,
>though I am not an archer at all. [...] Still, should we look at
>establishing an Archery marshalate to oversee combat archers?

Actually, you seem to be slightly mistaken.

First of all, as a Heavy Marshal, you can only oversee combat archery, in
the sense of being a 'line marshal'. IE, on the field, looking out for the
safety of all the fighters in general, watching the lines, etc.

You are not authorized to inspect combat archery equipment, as you are not
a Combat Archery Marshal ...

Which, on that note, we DO have a Combat Archery Marshallate that oversees
combat archers.

If you look at the Roster of Marshals:
http://marshal.atlantia.sca.org/Roster/RosterIndex.html

You will see each 'form' in which there is a separate Marshallate structure
set up to handle. Combat Archery is one of many ... and currently Sir Tnek
serves as Kingdom Combat Archery Marshal (Officially titled: Deputy Earl
Marshal for Combat Archery)

In Service,
Siegfried
