For those coming to Hidden Mountain Baronial Birthday: Decameron next
weekend, please note that there will be two important fundraisers:

First, there will be baked goods and other food items for sale sponsored by
and for the benefit of the Hidden Mountain Scribal Guild. A variety of items
will be available from some of the best cooks in the Barony. Bring your
appetites!!

Second, you can purchase a dag for the baronial pavilion upon which to
display your heraldic device in perpetuity for a mere $20 per dag.

Please support both of these worthy and noble causes!
We hope to see you next weekend at what promises to be a *very* fun event!
Complete flyer follows.

Hidden Mountain: Decameron
...because there's nothing funnier than the Black Death!

It's 1348 and Boccaccio is weaving his allegorical tales of Florence in the
days of the Black Death. In our own little corner of Italy, the folk of
Hidden Mountain have retreated to their spa to take the healing airs. Join
us as we celebrate life and try to cheat Death for just one more hour.

THE SITE is Camp Juniper at Cheraw State Park, 100 State Park Road, Cheraw,
SC 29624. The event will open with a hospitality table from 5:00pm on
Friday, May 23rd for tent camping and will close at 12:00pm on Sunday, May
25th. All of the main activities will start after breakfast on Saturday.
Although this is primarily a camping/day-trip event, there is a hot shower
bathhouse and two separate halls for feast and A&S activities. Local hotel
information is also available from the Autocrat.

THE GAMES simply have to played to be believed! They include the "Rat a
Pult" game, "Lance a Boil," "Bubonic Bocce," "Rat Races," "Yew Dirty Rat,"
"All Soul's Flight," and lots more, including a little Seventh Seal chess
action between Death and Their Excellencies!

THE FIGHTING will consist of three separate tournaments for heavy and rapier
fighters. Fighters will face the "Wheel of Misfortune" testing their mettle
against both foe and Plague alike. Prizes will be awarded for the "best
Death" both on and off the field! During the armored fun, Their Excellencies
will also be selecting new Baronial Champions from both Heavy and Rapier
combatants.

THE CHAMPIONS: Their Excellencies hold their Champions in high regard.
Requirements for participation are outlined in Hidden Mountain's baronial
newsletter, the Mountain Mayhem, or you may contact Their Excellencies for
details.

THE ARTS: The Decameron consists of one hundred tales-- ten tales told over
ten days by ten storytellers: three noblemen and seven ladies. In keeping
with that theme, there will be three A&S competitions. 1) Items based
around the number 10 (ten). 2) Short stories and poems (written or oral)
about the Black Death, Noblemen, and/or Ladies. 3) Italian arts of the 14th
c. (i.e. anything that's 14th c. Italian).

A DANSE MACABRE will be held Saturday evening to celebrate both the victims
as well as the survivors of the day's games, so bring your dancing shoes! A
prize will be awarded for the best costume inspired by the Decameron.

THE FEAST: A fabulous, Italian-themed feast will be prepared based on W.G.
Water's The Cook's Decameron. If you have any special dietary concerns,
contact the autocrat before the event, not just before feast. The complete
menu can be viewed at http://members.aol.com/hiddenmountain/menu.htm. Feast
is strictly limited to 80 persons, so reserve early!

THE COST: The cost of the event is a mere $15.00 On-Site/On-Board; $10.00
On-Site/Off-Board; $10.00 Off-Site/On-Board; or $5.00 for day-trippers.
Children 6-11 are half price and children 5 and under are guests of the
Barony. To our embarrassment, adult (18+), non-SCA members have to pay an
extra $3.00 because the SCA forces us to collect it. Please send all
reservations to the Autocrat: Bran Trefonnen (Scot Myers, 415 Parkdale
Drive, Apt. 17-F, Charleston, SC 29414-4915; (843) 763-6681) with checks
made payable to: The Barony of Hidden Mountain/SCA Inc. If you need any
further information, please feel free to call or send e-mail to
SWMyers at aol.com
