HI all!
Just a quick message to let people know what youth
activities are planned at Sapphire Joust this weekend:
11-4 on Saturday May 24, 2003 Pages Academy is
sponsoring a "Youth All Arts A&S Competition --
Finished or In-progress" (entrants please be available
from 1-2 pm on Saturday to answer any questions by the
judges) with categories and prizes for youths (not
just Pages) ages 9-13 and youths 14-17. It requires
documentation for each entry. There will be
participation tokens for all entrants. Multiple
entries can come from the same person. It will be
held at the A&S pavilion on site.
11-4 on Saturday and Sunday May 24-25, 2003
registration for the display must be completed by 1
p.m on Saturday): Pages Academy is sponsoring a youth
A&S display (finished or in progress all arts and
sciences) with two categories of entrants for youths
(not just pages) ages 9-13 and ages 14-17. Display
pieces must also have documentation. It will be held
at the A&S pavilion on site.
Guidelines on documentation for youth competition and
youth display: Documentation needs to answer the
following questions (at a minimum): (1) What was done
in period, (2) what did you do, (3) how are they
different and why. Specificity of the sources (with
extra weight begin given to primary sources),
conciseness, clarity, legibility, and a demonstrated
understanding of medieval practices and materials will
all be considered. If the piece is an in-progress
piece the entrant needs to explain the next steps the
entrant will be taking and any issues that are
impacting completion (e.g. novice, awaiting some
period materials, etc).
2:30-4:30 p.m.Saturday "Youth Courtesy and Service
Quest Tourney" for youths (not just Pages) ages 9 and
up (participants need to find people, things and
answer trivia on the SCA and courtesy and service
issues) (this is worth 2 Chivalry and History credits
to
pages). There will be a prize for most points. Pick
up packets at Youth point.
12-5 Saturday and Sunday Teen Meeting Pavilion. Teens
are invited to come and meet other teens at the Teen
Point pavilion. The Youth Dean, Maria Francesca
(scamariaf at yahoo.com), is coordinating on amenities
issues from teen volunteers.
