Hmm. If I remember correctly, a similar concoction was offered to a famous
Roman prisoner 75 or 80 years later during his execution, though in this
case, it was refused.

I have read that Julius Caesar drank vinegar diluted with water, so pickle
juice may have a long history as a restorative.
