I play trumpet, and can manage more than a few bugle
calls as well. A simple fanfare would be rather easy
to write/play. The tricky part would be getting horns
in correct keys for the harmony. One could write a
fanfare for three horns in the same key, but it would
lack the depth that several keys would give. I wonder
if the smaller valveless horn could be modified at
all...shortened perhaps, to make a new key. The bit
about it coming apart "for storage" sounds like it
might also be for tuning, though I think it would be
hard to maintain the tuning while playing it, as you
would be applying pressure to it. Still, if you held
it behind the point it comes apart, it could work. As
to modifying it, being thin brass it might take some
very deft skill to accomplish...and would need to be
rather exact to not sound like canadian geese
mating...
Well, I have prattled on a bit more than needed, but
for the record, I am also willing to join a
trumpeter's line for courts in the Northenr reaches of
Atlantia.
