Highland River Melees
The theme for this years melees will be Caesar in Gaul. With the exception
of the bear pit all battles will involve combat archery and siege weapons.
The first battle is the invasion of Gaul. A large Roman army will attack
three tribes of Celts. Together the Celts outnumber the Romans two to one.
The Celts have a treasure chest per a tribe. The Romans have no treasure.
The group with the most treasure at the end wins. Mercenaries can be bought
at a coin a piece from the “dead”, that coin goes to no one. The battle
ends when there is no more treasure to be won or one team remains. As with
all of the battles treasure can be exchanged at the end of the event for
merchandise.
The second battle is Caesar vs. the Veneti. The Veneti had a fleet of
ships and had to be defeated at sea. Ships will be laid out as last year
and each side will have three mobile boarding ramps. To cross from ship to
ship you must use a ramp. The dead return to the shore but can not fight
unless a ramp exists to let them on a ship. The first side to control all
the ramps wins and gets a treasure chest to split up. Siege weapons will be
active and can sink ships.
The third battle is for Alesia. The Celts will be out numbered but in a
fort. The Romans will be in a second set of walls. All dead come back as
Celts outside the second set of walls. There is a treasure chest inside the
town of Alesia. The Romans win if they can take the treasure. The Celts
win if they kill all the Romans. The winning side divvies up the treasure.
There will also be a melee bear pit. Teams of three (or four) will fight
to the death, a new team enters the moment a team is defeated. Wounds are
not retained. Teams with one or less Knights will be allowed a 4th person.
After three wins two new teams enter and the old team goes back into the
line. Each victory earns a coin. The bear pit ends when all the coins have
been won.
Treasure coins will have a monetary amount that can be used as money at
event merchant booths. The merchants will be reimbursed with cash in
exchange for the treasure coins.
The battles start promptly at one PM with inspections starting at twelve
noon. Qualifications start at ten AM. and will end regardless of number of
candidates at one PM. If needed, qualifications will continue at the end of
the battles. As this is a demo event please cover up or attempt to disguise
modern materials.
