[MR] Question

I have been pondering on this question for a while to whom to ask this too. I just figured I would just email it out on the MR, and see if someone would help me with the answer to it. 
I  have done research, and cannot for the life of me find out......Where in Pre-1600, to which the SCA is ALL about, has there EVER been Piarates? Please help me with this. Im lost.
