Herbstfest (Autumn Party V): The Holy Roman Empire
September 19-21, 2003, Crannog Mor

More than a millennium has passed since we visited the
Roman Empire! Now we explore its late-period cousin,
the Holy Roman Empire. Bring out your landsknecht side
& join us for Crannog Mor’s signature event, now a
fundraiser for the Oak.

Martial Activities:
Heavy: German-style (shieldless) tournament. Bring a
wide variety of weapons! (Note: This is not a Pas.)
Exceptions: If you are only authorized in sword and
shield, & have been authorized for more than 3 months,
a buckler will be provided. Fighters authorized for
less than 3 months (and not authorized in other
weapons forms) may use their shields.
Rapier: Details are in the works. The tentative
scenario includes teams trying to conquer Europe
country-by-country.
Thrown weapons on Saturday & target archery (IKAC).
Possible IKCAC, contact the autocrat if you are
interested.

Arts and Sciences Competitions (contact the autocrat
if you have questions):
1) Crannog Mor’s annual brewing competition. You must
be 21 to participate (bring ID)! Three categories:
beers/ales, wines/meads, liqueurs/cordials.
Documentation is strongly encouraged.
2) Best codpiece. No x-rated or offensive entries
please. You or your proxy must wear your entry at
feast. Judging by popular vote of the ladies. Yes,
ladies may enter the competition. Documentation &
creativity are pluses.
3) Bardic competition. Open format.
4) Calligraphy and Illumination, sponsored by Baroness
Brighid ni Siridean. Documentation required.
5) Poetry (Sonnets), sponsored by Lady Graciela
Esperanza de Sevilla. a) Best documentation, b) Best
piece. Contact Lady Graciela Esperanza (see feastcrat
info) for details.
Arts and Sciences Activities (non-competition): Games
will be available in the Tavern Friday night.
Post-feast, there will be a bardic circle on the
island, & dancing in the upper hall.

Meals: All site fees, both on and off-board, include
Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast and lunch, and
Sunday “scavenger” breakfast. Please note, however,
that these meals will be served during set times and
are first-come first-served. Meal times will be
available at troll.

Feast: At least three stages and thirty dishes,
sampling a variety of regions with connections to the
Holy Roman Empire (tentative menu posted at the end of
this flier). Bring multiple plates! Contact the
feastcrat at least a week prior to the event with any
food allergies or concerns. Diabetic-friendly/lots of
meat. Feastcrat: Lady Graciela Esperanza de Sevilla,
(828) 262-3669 or mysticsablewolf at hotmail.com. Seats
are limited; your chances at a seat are greatly
increased by prereserving.

Merchants: We have a wide covered porch overlooking
the fighting field from above, so you don’t have to
miss any of the action! No merchanting fee, but please
prereserve the amount of space you need, and please
bring your own tables.
